Common Core Conference Days

Writing About Reading: Reading Notebooks and Projects, Literary Essays, and Text-Based Arguments

Teaching students to write well about texts involves teaching them to unlock the secrets of complex texts. On this day, you’ll learn to help your students analyze language, synthesize ideas and details, trace symbolism, understand the implications of text structure, and develop this thinking through information and argument writing. Mary will provide practical teaching methods for helping students have success with responses to literature, research-based writing, and close reading. You will practice responding to students’ writing, leading small groups to lift the level of what students do, and designing meaningful writing about reading curriculum
