Literacy Specialist


The International School Nido de Aguilas located in beautiful, Santiago, Chile is currently looking for an experienced literacy specialist/coach/staff developer to further the work being done in regards to Readers and Writers Workshop. We believe this to be an exciting opportunity for someone interested in relocating to Santiago and embarking on a rewarding international adventure! Typically, we seek candidates who have a degree in Elementary Education, teacher certification, and a minimum of three years of experience as teacher. This position will begin in JULY 2013.


We currently serve over 1,700 students (pre-school to grade 12) from the US and international business community, as well as a number of Chileans seeking a US style education. Our faculty numbers more than 150 teachers with approximately 90 being native English speakers from the US, Canada or the UK. Nido is a non-profit trust, is the official US State Department School in Chile and serves most of the international diplomatic community assigned to embassies and consulates in Santiago. Nido is also fully accredited both in the US and by the Ministry of Education in Chile. All classes are taught in English and we offer a program similar to that of college preparatory public and private schools in the US.


Nido salaries are competitive and other benefits include a tuition waiver for school age children, housing allowance, shipping allowance for personal effects, health and life insurance, a retirement plan contribution, a generous settling-in allowance upon arrival, and annual home leave after the initial two year contract. A generous contract renewal bonus is also offered every year after the first contract to those who choose to renew their contracts beyond the initial two-year commitment. Our school calendar consists of 190 work days for teachers. It corresponds to both traditional North American school calendars and the reversed seasons here in the Southern Hemisphere. First semester runs from the 4th week of July through mid December and the second semester begins in mid February and ends the third week of June. Roughly, we have a one-month break in July (our winter) and a two month break between the semesters during the Chilean summer (from Christmas to mid February).
